Kristen Kawass is an experienced appellate attorney who focuses on post-trial litigation.

Experience

Following law school, Kristen served as the law clerk to the Honorable Milton Hirsch of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit for approximately two and a half years. During this time, Kristen gained specialized skills in the field of post-conviction practice.

Ms. Kawass assisted the court in researching and resolving hundreds of post-conviction motions, all of which were upheld by the appellate court.

Kristen founded the Law Offices of Kawass, P.A. in 2013 and was later joined by her sister and partner, Tara Kawass. Kristen’s passion for writing and legal research has guided her to litigate dozens of criminal appeals before the Third District Court of Appeal, which have included convictions ranging from aggravated battery to first-degree murder.

Ms. Kawass has also litigated several motions for post-conviction relief, fighting to overturn convictions and sentences which were wrongfully imposed.

Education

Ms. Kawass graduated cum laude from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2010. During law school, Ms. Kawass was recognized and awarded for her legal writing skills and her advocacy in appellate law.

Notable

Kristen is currently a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Miami Chapter. In 2016, Ms. Kawass received the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s “40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of South Florida” award for demonstrated excellence in the legal field and contributions to the community.

In 2019, Ms. Kristen Kawass received the “The Gregg Wenzel Young Lawyer’s Award” from the FACDL-Miami Chapter for her recognition as a young lawyer who exemplifies hard work in the legal arena and in service to the community.
